Antoni and Alison

Antoni Burakowski and Alison Roberts, the duo behind Antoni and Alison, are artists as well as fashion designers, though they keep these two outputs fairly separate. That was until London Fashion Week this year.

Antoni and Alison showed their Spring Summer 2010 collection, which showed a marked combination of their talents as fashion designers and artists in a show called ‘Screen Tests’. Taking their love of film as a starting point, the pair ‘made modern’ 43 great female roles from cinematic history, reimagining contemporary outfits for each.

Ranging from ‘Kitchen Sink Dramas’ such as Cathy from ‘Cathy come Home’ to ‘Science Fiction’ stars like Barbarella, the outfits were not just well-imagined and conceived as individual costumes but impressively worked together as the premise for an entire collection.

Showing the whimsical, kooky characteristics the designers have built their name on, the slide show presentation, which took place in the screening room of Somerset House, was every bit as entertaining as the varied selection of films from which they drew their inspiration.

I think these images are fantastic and a clever way of combining their fashion design and art skills to create a show so different and memorable. These images are inspiring for visual merchandising and graphics.
