Thrift Finds 5

Here is another installment of recent thrift finds I have got from local charity and antique stores, from jewellery, pictures, scarfs to my new obsession with vintage cut glass pieces. As for the vintage dress, that is actually one my mother has passed on to me, its absolutely stunning and just in need of a little altering and repair so I may wear it.

Back to Burberry

Last week I was back at Burberry for a couple days, working on their mens section of the showroom at their headoffice. It was great being back, and though it had been a month since my first visit, being back it felt no time had pasted at all! Tasks included: dressing and re-arranging mannequins, merchandising their denim and check shirts, folding jumpers and shirts, arranging ties and putting key looks together.

On my second day I also got to work on the mens non-apparallel section, this consists of leather goods, bags and soft accessories. I was assigned fixtures to dress; and after two days of hard work we managed to get the mens section complete! All in time for Christmas.

Antiques & Home: Vintage Special

Recent Purchases

As well as my thrift finds, I like to mix it up with new and designer items (now that I can start to afford them!) Most recently I have bought: a Ralph Lauren wool scarf in navy, a Jack Wills knitted cardigan, a navy quilted jacket (which I got in a kids size and its still too big!) And finally I always promised myself I would use my first full paycheck to buy myself a classic handbag...and I did just that! I chose a mulberry bayswater in oak with a croc effect, and absolutely love it.

Thrift Finds 4

Working in Tunbridge Wells where there are an abundant of charity shops, I find I cannot help myself sometimes but to just have a quick peek in my lunch hour! A quick peek though soon results in me purchasing multiple items! But it's all for a good cause I say. See some of my latest finds below including: a boater hat, a tapestry bag (yeah I know how long has it taken me to get on board with these trends!), a grey knit jumper (actually from Portabello market when I was there last week), a little vintage brown leather bag from Clarks and a gorgeous sequin navy jacket.

Christmas Shop Watch: Tunbridge Wells

With Christmas looming it will not be long til the sales begin and we lose the beautiful Christmas windows in our highstreets - to be replaced with red sale signs! With this in mind I had a wander around Tunbridge Wells and had what could be my last chance to appreciate the Christmas windows in place. See some of the photos I have taken:

















Christmas trends this year appear to have been:
- a handmade aesthetic
- red and white colour scheme
- back to nature minimal look
- music note motif
- russian dolls
- twigs - twisted into hearts and other shapes
- hearts, letters, deer

Stella McCartney: Week Five

This week I was based back at the head office of Stella McCartney, and was set a very fun task! In the stores Stella McCartney likes to have flowers arranged in clear vintage cut glass vases, and my task was to find more of these vases. They were required for the Las Vegas store, and as the brand expands for future stores.

I therefore firstly hunted down vases online, and found a great bundle for sale on ebay. As well, as it was a Friday and all the markets were out on Portabello road, I was sent out to trawl through the markets and find more vases. This I thoroughly enjoyed as I am huge admirer of antiques and markets, and finding the vases one by one was very satisfying. And in true Apprentice style I haggled and got the best deals possible, and impressively came back with 10 vases and over half my budget!

When I returned to the office, I packaged up the vases I got from the market, which were then prepared to be sent to Las Vegas. And I finished the day by do some research. Another insightful week with Stella McCartney....
