London Shop Watch

For the past week I have been in London on a couple of occasions and taken some photos of windows that caught my eye. There is the horse theme from Juicy Couture, the humourous french theme from French Connection, the Zara window that looks good enough to eat and fun and playful themes at Selfridges. Stella McCartney: Week Three

This week with Stella McCartney I was lucky enough to help set up a pop-up shop for the brand in Selfridges! We used giant colourful lego pieces to spell out 'STELLA' and to place the stock on, and we dispersed a few mannequins dressed in black between the letters to show off the clothes. And it worked! Within 10-15mins of setting the pop-up shop we had a customer asking after one of the dresses and they bought it! It just goes to show how effective visual merchandising is, and how it boosts sales.

To make the connection between the pop-up shop and the Stella McCartney concession I made smaller versions of the lego "stella"s to put around the concession. I also got to do some mannequin dressing before heading back to the office. At the office I was set a project and created some moodboards for it. Stella McCartney: Week Two

This week on my placement with Stella McCartney I was based in the London store in Mayfair - there I helped prepare for the kidswear launch! This consisted of putting the new window in place, setting up the kid's fixturing, putting out the stock and merchandising/dressing mannequins. We began with the window - which comprised of large exterior vinyls (which were not easy to put up! - and getting rid of the air bubbles was a nightmare), then behind inside the window were hanging coloured shapes and a sign with the kidswear logo. Next we focused on updating the look of the store by re-dressing the mannequins around the shop. Upstairs we had a black and white theme with a group of mannequins, whilst elsewhere there were nude and grey colour palettes and themes.
In the afternoon the fixturing was set up and ready to merchandise, I steamed the clothes and helped display them on the fixture, lookbooks were then laid out and that completed the kids section of the shopfloor.
My other duties in the day included: a trip to Selfridges to make a delivery (but I also could not help having a look around and familiarising myself with the Stella McCartney concession and collections once again. As well I had some stockroom duties, putting stock back etc and undressing and moving mannequins. See photos of what I helped with instore below.
